Algeria’s Health Minister H.E. Abdelmalek Boudiaf made a working visit to London.

Mr Boudiaf’s brief was to have meetings with healthcare professionals, and visit leading hospitals, St Mary’s Paddington where the world’s leading cancer surgeon Lord Darzi is based. In addition he toured University College, London. He also visited the London School of English to hear about its teaching of English for professionals. The visit which was hosted by the British Government was lead by the British Ambassador to Algeria, HE. Martyn Roper.

A reception was hosted for him by H.E. the Algerian Ambassador M. Amar Abba in association with the Algeria British Business Council.  In his remarks M. Boudiaf expressed the hope that British companies with a whole range of expertise in the medical sector would contribute to the major hospital programme in Algeria.


Algeria’s Minister for National Education, H.E. Abdelatif Baba Ahmed paid a two day visit to London for the BETTS Show, to learn about latest best practises in teaching in schools, colleges and universities.  

Mr Baba Ahmed also visited colleges in London and Cambridge. He made a point of learning about the teaching of English programmes; and was proud to announce the introduction of 100 Phd students to study English in the UK.

A reception was held for him hosted by H.E. the Algerian Ambassador M.Amar Abba in association with the Algeria British Business Council.   A number of leading training colleges were in attendance.   Also present was Mr Matthew Anderson, Director of TVET, the training trade association who will be leading a mission to Algeria 8 – 16 February.

 Diaspora: Grasping most fertile opportunities for concrete partnerships within home country


TOULOUSE (France) – The President of the National Economic and Social Council (CNES), Mohamed Seghir Babès emphasised on his first working day with Algerians living in Toulouse, to start to reflect on the interest of grasping the most fertile opportunities within the home country and create concrete partnerships. Tax revenue for 2013 expected to exceed DZD 2,000 billion


ALGIERS - Revenues from ordinary taxation for 2013 are expected to exceed DZD 2,000 billion (over $ 27 billion), representing a completion rate of 111%, Director General of Taxes (DGI), Abderrahmane Raouia announced on Sunday. Read more


Thirty new dams to be built in next five years


ALGIERS - Thirty new dams with a total storage capacity of nearly 1.5 billion cubic metres will be built as part of the future development plan 2015-2019, announced Minister of Water Resources, Hocine Necib. Read more


Mining bill adopted by an overwhelming majority


ALGIERS - The People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) adopted by an overwhelming majority the Bill on Mining after 5 out of 22 amendments proposed by the deputies. Read more

ALGIERS - Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Achim Steiner hailed Algeria’s commitment to this programme on Monday in Algiers. Read more


For promoting raw materials’ exploitation locally


ALGIERS – Minister for Industrial Development and Investment Promotion, Amara Benyounes emphasised the need for promoting raw materials and exploiting them locally to generate added value and acquire experience through industrialization. Read more


Ould Khelifa to represent President Bouteflika at Davos World Economic Forum


ALGIERS - President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika has assigned the speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa to represent him at the annual meeting of the Davos World Economic Forum, a Presidency of the Republic’s office said on Tuesday. Stepping up Algeria-UNEP cooperation highlighted in Algiers


ALGIERS - Boosting cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was at the centre of discussions on Monday in Algiers, between the Minister of National Planning and Environment, Dalila Boudjemaa and United Nations Under Secretary General and UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner. Employment: 675,459 jobs created in 2013, nearly 600,000 out public service


ALGIERS - A total of 675,459 jobs were created in 2013 out of agriculture, including 595,489 jobs created outside public service, says a report from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security. Read more


Foreign trade: Algeria’s trade surplus drops by around 50% in 2013


ALGIERS - Algeria recorded a trade surplus of USD11.06 billion in 2013 against USD21.49 in 2012, down 48.51 %, said Algerian Customs on Tuesday. Read more


Algeria’s A4 rating maintained by Coface


PARIS (France) - The French insurance company for foreign trade (COFACE), has maintained the A4 rating for the country risk evaluation for Algeria, when business environment ranked B and the risk of the middle-term ratings is "quite low." Read more


Fourth call to tender for exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons


ALGIERS - President of the National Agency for the Promotion of Hydrocarbon Resources (Alnaft), Sid Ali Betata announced the official launch of the fourth call to tender for exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons on Tuesday. Read more


Tiguentourine gas complex to run at full capacity in next few weeks


ALGIERS - The gas complex of Tiguentourine, target of a terrorist attack in January 2013, will resume optimal production in the next few weeks with the restart of its third train, announced Minister of Energy and Mining, Youcef Yousfi on Tuesday. Read more


Investments: Sellal calls for economic rather than administrative approach


BORDJ BOU ARRERIDJ (Algeria) - Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal Arreridj called on local officials involved in investment to act from an economic approach rather than an administrative approach. Read more


Slight drop of primary production of hydrocarbons in 2013


ALGIERS – The primary production of hydrocarbons reached 190 million tons of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2013, i.e. a 4% decrease in comparison with 2012, CEO of Sonatrach, Abdelhamid Zerguine said on Tuesday in Algiers. Read more


Mining: Chinese group in Tala Hamza zinc deposit shortly


BEJAIA (Algeria) - Experts from the Chinese mining group NFC (China Non Ferrous Metal Industry’s) will soon begin a prospection mission on the zinc and lead deposit of Tala Hamza (Bejaia) for its exploration, Directorate General of the National Company of non-ferrous metals ENOF announced on Wednesday. Electricity: Installed capacity exceeded 15,000 MW in 2013


ALGIERS - The installed production capacity of electricity in Algeria reached 15,163 megawatts (MW) in 2013 against 12.936MW of the previous year, ie an increase of 17.3%, according to a report presented on Tuesday by group Sonelgaz. Read more

ALGIERS - Algeria’s inflation rate recorded a sharp drop in 2013, standing at 3.3% after an "important" increase of 8.9% in 2012, the National Office of Statistics (ONS) told APS on Wednesday. Read more
