BY

Dr BOUKRAMI,

PhD, Warwick Business School

A History of the Algerian Banking Industry 1830-2010 coauthored by Abdelhafid Benamraoui and Elias Boukrami, a member of the Regent's Centre for Transnational Studies has been published by Edwin Mellen Press.

The book is described as an important in-depth analysis of the institutional framework of the Algerian banking industry from 1930 to 2010 is a must read for academics, policy makers and individuals interested in the economics of emerging countries and specifically Algeria. It charts the banking evolution and development during Algeria’s post-independence and socialist periods; its relationship to global monetary policy; its free market transformation and its de facto inefficiency. The book also provides insight into the banking change agents from a political cultural perspective and suggests important reforms that would stabilize the Algerian banking industry in the future.

In his endorsement of the book, Dr K. Mellahi of Warwick Business School stated that “for managers and policy makers, the book is an excellent reference to understanding key issues and changes taking place in the Algerian banking Sector…[it] will be of great interest to academics, policy makers, bank managers, students and individuals…this book serves as a valuable reference for studying banking sector in emerging and developing economies in general and Algeria in particular.”
