Output quotas to be defined in OPEC coming meeting, says Boutarfa


ALGIERS- Energy Minister, Noureddine Boutarfa, said Sunday in Algiers the OPEC countries’ production quotas would be defined during the cartel ordinary meeting, on 28 November in Vienna. On the sidelines of the signing of a contract between Sonatrach and Chinese Group CPECC, the Minister was asked by the press on the future of OPEC deal concluded last September in Algiers. The deal provided for the reduction of the output between 32.5 and 33 million barrels per day. Read More

Sellal underlines in Bamako need to strengthen, boost Algerian-Malian cooperation


BAMAKO- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal underlined, Thursday in Bamako, the need to "strengthen and boost" the Algerian-Malian cooperation by diversifying it. "The numerous exchanges of visits between officials of our two countries, over the past two years, allowed confirming the strong ties of friendship and solidarity between Algeria and Mali, hence the need to further strengthen and boost the Algerian-Malian cooperation, by diversifying it," Sellal said in his address at the 12th session of the Algerian-Malian High Joint Commission. The Premier added that his presence in Bamako "shows our willingness to give new impetus to our bilateral relations."Read More

Algeria-EU: Parliamentary relations’ future main focus of meeting between Bensalah, Panzeri


ALGIERS- The future of the relations between the Algerian and European parliaments was on Thursday the main focus of a meeting between the Speaker of the Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah and the head of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Maghreb Countries Pier Antonio Panzeri, who is on a visit to Algeria, said the Council. The meeting was an opportunity to “exchange views on the future of the relations between the Algerian and European parliamentarians, in the light of new facts at the regional and international levels,” added the Council in a communiqué.Read More

State won’t abandon subsidy policy in Finance Bill 2017


ALGIERS- The Finance Bill 2017 doesn’t include an article relating to the subsidy policy of the State, said Thursday in Algiers Minister of Finance Hadji Babaammi. On the sidelines of a Lower House session on the oral questions, the minister said that the "State has not abandoned the subsidy policy in the Finance Bill 2017,” citing the very high levels of social transfers. In the future, the Government plans to grant those subsidies to the needy through a new system which is under elaboration, he said. Read More

Refinery of Algiers: Sonatrach, Chinese CPECC sign DZD 45 billion contract


ALGIERS- The National oil company Sonatrach and Chinese Group China Petroleum Engineering and Construction (CPECC) on Sunday in Algiers have signed a contract worth DZD45 billion (i.e. over  $410 million) for the restoration of Sidi R’zine Refinery in Baraki (Algiers). The agreement was inked by the head of Sonatrach refinery segment Tahar Cherif Zerrar, and General Manager of CPECC Algeria, Liu Chun Lin, in the presence of Energy Minister Noureddine Boutarfa, CEO of Sonatrach, Amine Mazouzi, as well as Chinese ambassador to Algiers Yang Guangyu. Nearly 20% drop in cereal import bill in first nine months


ALGIERS- Algeria's import bill of cereals (wheat, maize and barley) dropped by nearly 20% during the first nine months of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015, despite a slight increase in the imported quantity, said the Algerian Customs' National Centre of Data Processing and Statistics (CNIS). Cereal import bill declined to US$2.05 billion for 10.01 million tonnes between January to late September 2016, against US$2.56 billion for 9.93 million tonnes during the same period a year earlier, down by 19.9% in terms of value and up by 0.84% in terms of volume, said the source. 12th session of Algerian-Malian High Joint Commission in Bamako Thursday


BAMAKO- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and his Malian counterpart Modibo Keita will co-chair the 12th session of the Algerian-Malian High Joint Cooperation Commission in Bamako, Mali, on Thursday. This session will be held for the first time under that name (High Joint Cooperation Commission), following the decision of the leaders of the two countries with a view to showing their willingness to enhance the economic, trade and social cooperation up to the level of the political and security cooperation. President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Mali's President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita decided, during Malian president's last visit to Algeria, to strengthen the long-standing relations of friendship, solidarity and good neighbourliness between Algeria and Mali and enhance them up to a level commensurate with the aspirations of the peoples of the two countries. Import food prices drop in first seven months 2016


ALGIERS- Algeria's import prices of food and processed foodstuffs have, in their majority, dropped during the first seven months of 2016, compared with the same period in 2015, the ministry of Trade told APS. In raw material intended for food-processing industry, hard wheat prices fell to 322 dollars/tonne (-31.63% compared with the same period in 2015), soft wheat to USD192/t (-25%) and maize to USD183/t (-10.3%). Purchase prices of milk powder stood at USD2,319/t (-21.34%).Read More  

Mebarki at Mediterranean Economic Rendezvous Thursday


ALGIERS- Minister of Training and Professional Education Mohamed Mebarki will take part Thursday in Marseilles, France, in the 12th Mediterranean Economic Rendezvous, to be held under the theme "the effects of Digital Development on the Labour Market in the Mediterranean," the ministry said Wednesday in a statement. During the meeting to be attended by ministers, academics and experts, Mebarki will make an address about human resources training to develop industry and digital economy, in response to the labour market. Three major projects for production of oil-well cement, glass and cotton in Adrar


ALGIERS – Three large-scale projects in the field of the production of oil well cement, glass and cotton in Adrar have been announced by Minister of Industry and Mines, Abdessalem Bouchouareb, during his visit to the south-western province of Algeria. The first project constitutes the building of a cement plant in the commune of El Moktène (260km of the downtown), with a production capacity nearing 1.5 million tons per year of cement and clinker, as from 1st quarter 2017. The plant will increase its production up to 3 million tons per year to export cement towards the neighboring countries. Read More

Air Algerie plans to launch new international routes, says CEO


EL-OUED (Algeria) – CEO of Air Algérie, Mohamed Abdou Bouderbala, on Monday in El –Oued announced plans to reinforce national airline’s air transportation network by the launching of new international routes. "Air Algérie plan to launch new international routes is part of the airline strategy to meet the demands of its customers from the Algerian community abroad and the economic operators,” said Mohamed Abdou Bouderbala during the ceremony of the launch of El-Oued-Paris route. Jan-August oil taxation hits DZD1,171 billion


ALGIERS – The effective oil taxation, which has been recovered, totaled DZD 1,171 billion (i.e. over $10 billion) between January and August 2016, General Manager of taxes Abderrahmane Raouya told APS on Monday. Regarding the ordinary taxation recovered in the same period, it stood at nearly DZD1,725 billion (over $15billion), Raouya said before the Lower House’s Finance and Budget Committee as part of the debate on Finance Bill 2017.Read More
